Traditional Uses

An effective stimulant and aromatic for the lungs and stomach. Treats stomach conditions including flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and morning sickness (safe in pregnancy). They dispel chills and disinfect the lymphatics. Effective in colds and coughs. The volatile oil is a powerful analgesic (pain-relief); works well on gums for toothache and topically for insect bites and gout (dilute in carrier oil). ^2.

Anthelmintic (expel parasitic worms); anti-bacterial; anti-diarrhea; anti-fungal; antimicrobial; antispasmodic; aromatic; astringent; carminative; hemostatic; hypoglycemic; stimulant

Traditional Uses

As a carminative (relieves flatulence) is a useful companion to laxatives; considered warming to the intestinal tract. Astringent properties make it useful for the treatment of diarrhea and for conditions of passive hemorrhage. Helpful in colds, and flus; is antiviral. Has shown beneficial effects on hyperglycemia in type II diabetes by promoting insulin release, and enhancing insulin sensitivity. Used as an anti-perspirant in deodorant, in insect repellant, and for gingivitis, thrush and lice. Used topically to warm the hands and feet. May stimulate menses; also helpful for menstrual cramps, fibroids and yeast infections. ^1. 2.

Traditional Uses

Used for the treatment of upset stomach and intestinal pains. Alleviates hunger, reduces tiredness, generally refreshes and increases work capacity. Aids with liver and heart problems, tuberculosis and to get rid of parasitic worms. Has a strong cleaning and disinfecting ability; was traditionally used as a soap and smoked in religious ceremonies. Contains polyphenols, polysaccharides (in particular beta-glucans, which may normalize an overactive immune system), and terpenes (like betulinic acid and sterols). ^2.

Traditional Uses

Traditionally used to treat various diseases such as inflammations of the digestive, renal, respiratory, and reproductive tracts. A folk remedy for obesity. Primarily used to treat irritated skin and soothes severe itchiness. Relieves eczema, varicose veins and urticaria. An infusion of the fresh or dried plant may be added to a bath to soothe skin conditions. Emollient properties help reduce inflammation and are useful for rheumatic joint conditions; helps encourage tissue repair. Indicated for eye inflammation, coughs, hoarseness, chest infections and bronchitis. ^1. 2.

Traditional Uses

Specific for use in all kinds of gastrointestinal disturbances associated with nervous irritability; treatment of IBS and colitis. Safe to use on children; its powerful anti-inflammatory actions make it useful in almost any condition. As a nervine sedative and bitter will aid digestion while promoting a restful sleep. Treatment for fever, colds, measles, candida and stomach ailments, conjunctivitis, hay fever, and mucous membrane inflammation (involving ear, nose and sinuses). Used topically to heal wounds; a mild anesthetic useful for rheumatic and muscular pains and neuralgia. Healing topically for eczema, skin inflammation and irritations, diaper rash, mastitis, skin ulcers, and sunburn. ^1. 2.
