THAI BODYWORK INTENSIVE
North Galiano Community Hall (22790 Porlier Pass Road)
November 19-22nd (Friday / Saturday / Sunday)
We'll be practicing a traditional method of 'Nuad Boran' Northern Thai bodywork over three days and 7 sessions. Although no formal massage or bodywork experience is necessary, some yoga background is definitely an asset as we will be working in postures. The practice does require that you move around on the floor, balance in a half-kneeling position, and sit crossed legged, or on your knees. You will need to bring a large bed-size mattress or double foamie to work on (let me know if you need these as there are a few to share). Thai bodywork benefits the whole body as it boosts lymph and blood circulation, relaxes the nervous system, soothes muscular aches and pains, and even treats headaches, menstrual pain, shoulder and back pain. Using sen line theory, acupressure points, basic anatomy and physiology, you will be offering whole body systemic healing - empowering the body to do the healing that it does naturally. The four positions of Thai Yoga Massage include supine, prone, sitting, and side position. Depending on your level of skill and experience, different postures will be presented and practiced each day. We always have a mix of beginner and advanced students so everyone can learn at their own pace. We begin on Friday morning and finish up Sunday around 1p.m. Each day starts with independent morning qi gong and yoga. You will need to bring your own breakfast and lunch for the three days (the Pink Geranium is also a great coffee and lunch spot nearby). For dinners there are lots of good places to eat out and a kitchen with a microwave, stove, etc. is available if you prefer to cook, and we often will collaborate on potluck-style meals together. It is encouraged for everyone to work with one another, but of course you are free to work with anyone you choose, or just one partner if you prefer. The program is split into 15-hour intensive weekends, and each weekend presents material that contributes to certification at the 30 and 60 hour levels (Level I and Level II). To qualify for certification, you must pass a practical exam demonstrating competence of all of the postures at each level. This certification program is recognized by NHPC (https://www.nhpcanada.org/) at the 30 and 60 hour certification level through the ITM School of Massage in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Transfer credit is granted upon completion of the final exam and all hours of training. Workbook is provided, the textbook is highly recommended (see this link to purchase). No partner is required but there is a requirement to both give and receive. Investment for the weekend: $399+gst (no accommodation), or $699+gst with shared accommodation. Payments can be made by e-transfer Sue@UnityYoga.ca, 50% deposit to hold your spot in the course, with full payment due by November 1st. Maximum Participants: 12
